#3 DITCH THE DECISION MAKING

I overthink, especially when I’m faced with a difficult decision, it’s easy to get caught up in a never-ending cycle of pros and cons lists, endless debates with myself, and endless second-guessing. But what if I told you that sometimes, the best thing I can do is to simply let my mind wander away for a bit? You know… chasing butterflies!

What I’m not saying is to totally ditch your responsibilities and never make a decision again. Life is full of making decisions, you and I can’t avoid them. But from time to time it’s actually pretty healthy to.

You see, when our minds are constantly focused on making a decision, it can be difficult to think outside of the box or come up with new and innovative ideas. It’s called decision fatigue. (Blog post coming shortly on my website.) We become so focused on the decision at hand that we can’t see the bigger picture or think creatively about potential solutions.

By giving your mind a break, you’re allowing yourself the space to step back and gain a new perspective. It’s a chance for your subconscious mind to work on the problem without your conscious mind getting in the way.

Here’s 6 ways to take the stress out of decision making when appropriate:

  • Give your mind a break
  • Practice mindfulness
  • Get a second opinion
  • Use a decision-making tool
  • Sleep on it
  • Trust your intuition

Doing any of these activities can help to tap into the right side of your brain, which is associated with creativity and imagination. So get onto it!

So next time you’re struggling with a decision, don’t force it. Give yourself a break and let your mind wander. You might just find that the answer comes to you in the most unexpected way.

If you’re finding yourself in this decision vortex a lot, I can help you navigate your way out of it. As a Certified Flourishing Coach I’ve got some space for new clients, so let’s talk more.
